Curious is seriously committed to diversity and we are proud to announce we’ve been awarded the 2016 International Centre for Women Playwrights 50/50 Applause Award.

This award recognizes theatres that produced 50% or more women playwrights in the 2015/16 season. For several years, the international performing arts industry has been scrutinized for its underrepresentation of women playwrights and this award is one way of encouraging and recognizing those who commit to women’s voices.  According to the League of Professional Theatre Women’s (LPTW) 2015 study “Women Count: Women Hired Off-Broadway 2010-2015”, women playwrights were produced only 28%-36% of the time.

In the 2015/16 Season, Curious produced five plays, three of which were written by women:

The Flick by Annie Baker
Sex with Strangers by Laura Eason
Elliot, A Soldier’s Fugue by Quiara Alegria Hudes

And, we’ll look forward to hearing from ICWP again next year. Our 2016/17 season also features three of five plays, by women authors. Including the one playing right now, Water by the Spoonful by Quiara Alegria Hudes. Don’t miss it!
