Member In Memoriam
Curious Co-Founders and Artistic Company Member Emeriti, Chip Walton and Dee Covington were part of a group of intrepid artists who started Curious in 1997 after working together in a groundbreaking production of Tony Kushner’s Angels in America. Over the past 26 years, Curious has become a major force for new plays in the Rocky Mountain region. We thank our founding Artistic Company Members whose dedication, hard work and artistic vision has helped make Curious the amazing theatre it is today. Partners in both art and life, Chip and Dee married in 2011 and have two daughters, Hattie and Scarlett.
Chip is known for his commitment to new plays and bold season selections focusing on world and regional premieres, while serving as Curious’ Producing Artistic Director from the company’s founding through its 24th Season. While at Curious, Chip’s work has garnered over 100 local and national awards, and he has directed more than 50 shows for Curious, most recently On the Exhale by Martin Zimmerman appearing in our 25th Anniversary Season.
Dee is known for her passion and love for our community’s youth and serving as Curious’ Education Director from the company’s founding until 2023. She was the passionate leader behind the company’s award-winning youth playwriting program Curious New Voices. In addition to her contributions to the youth she has been featured in acting and directing roles on stage, most recently On the Exhale by Martin Zimmerman (actor) and Franklinland by Lloyd Suh (director) also appearing in our 25th Anniversary Season.
